Church of England - Is God a Female?

Here is what I read on the web, but I also heard this on the Daily Wire, a news podcast that I listen to daily on my way into the office.

LONDON, Feb 8 (Reuters) - The Church of England will look into the use of gender neutral terms to refer to God in prayers, but the centuries-old institution said on Wednesday there were no plans to abolish current services.

The issue reflects growing global awareness about the assumed usage of pronouns causing offence or upset to those who do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth.

"Christians have recognised since ancient times that God is neither male nor female," a spokesperson for the Church said. "Yet the variety of ways of addressing and describing God found in scripture has not always been reflected in our worship."

Question: Do we as Christians get to change Scripture? The answer is, NO!

Nor do we get to change Scripture based on our own warped idea about our own identity. I don't believe God can or has been confused about his own identity.

Throughout the Scripture it speaks of the Fatherhood of God. Here are a few examples:

Isaiah 64:8 - But now, O Lord, You are our Father, We are the clay, and You our potter; And all of us are the work of Your hand.

Psalm 103:13 - Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.

Ephesians 4:6 - one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.

1 Corinthians 8:6 - yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.

Matthew 7:11 - If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

And remember in the Lord's Prayer that Jesus taught His disciple to pray, "Our Father which art in heaven." He didn't teach us to pray, "Our Mother which art in heaven." (Matthew 6:9).

There are times in Scripture where female imagery is used of God, but only to demonstrate that God cares for people the way a mother cares for her children. (see these verses as examples: Isaiah 42:14; 49:15; 66:13, Hosea 13:8; Deuteronomy 32:11-12,18).

Simon Turpin writing for Answers in Genesis in an article entitled: Is God Male or Female? writes, "While there are a number of feminine images in the Bible used to describe God, they in no way encourage the use of the term “mother” to describe him nor the use of feminine pronouns when referring to him."

The Church of England is WRONG to even consider making changes to how we have seen God since the beginning of creation. Why now? It's all about our broken culture. People who can't even determine their own sex want to teach us about the theology of God. I don't think so.
